The Face Mask

3/9/2020

Born in sterile hands,
I was made in China
Emigrated with my sisters packed
so tight a breath couldn't separate us
until they separate us
$60 apiece, valued for our skins
A banker buys me
I nestle uncomfortably against his stubble
his breath catches, exhales
my arms tighten around him automatically
I am an unwilling lover
to this burnt mouth, a bad actor
for shield against horror
I was not built for this battle
cannot serve my master
invite only fists that rip
me from this charade
