THE HALFWAY

Intertwined, compromised
And oft sublime
Two minds gazing into a fishbowl
Caught in the thought of forever

Part of it, at the start of it
The peripheral blur, I concur to my blindness
Conceding that knowing and unknowing
Are one and the same

Going opposite directions
A meeting just in passing
Fleetingly tangent
But pointing the way home

Anxious float on shrunken stomachs, bent backs
Swathed in the embrace of despair, don’t care
Undeniably whole,
But I can’t bear to bear it alone

Just start walking and we’ll meet halfway
Exactness is immaterial
And the shifting pavement stills--
Chilled—mollified—by your Grace

Nadir, my dear
Is the secret, the reason clothed by rhyme
A tragical face of the gift we get
The bond crayon-drawn when we met
Nestled in the bosom of infinity
